ST. PETERSBURG HIGH SCHOOL
MEDIA CENTER AND CLASSROOM ADDITION

St. Petersburg, Florida

The original high school was constructed in the early 1900's and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Challenged by the historic building and courtyards, Renker Eich Parks Architects conceived this building with a landscaped courtyard area surrounded by the three stories of classrooms on the south and west, with the Media Center to the north and east. The courtyard is the circulation core and focal point of this design. The main entry to the courtyard is through a covered area which is utilized by the students for gatherings and lunch breaks.

This addition emulates the existing 1900's school, in character and plan layout. Much of the detailing is true to the original building including arched colonnades, roof dormers, ornamentation, and windows which are matched in proportion and rhythm.

The total building area is 41,000 s.f. The construction budget including the re-construction of six tennis courts was $3,900,000.
